Delhi gets spell of light winter rain, over 85 trains delayed due to fog

The city received light rainfall on Wednesday with the maximum temperature settling six notches below normal at 14.7 degree Celsius. Over 85 trains were affected due to foggy conditions.

However, flight services were not hit, said an airport authority official.
The city recorded .5 mm rainfall till 8.30 am. Some areas in the city witnessed rainfall after 8.30 am as well.

“There was trace of rainfall in Safdarjung even after 8.30 am. While Palam recorded 1.3 mm of rainfall after that time, Iyengar witnessed .5 mm of rainfall. The Ridge area recorded 1.6 mm. Some areas are likely to receive rainfall on Wednesday night as well,” said a Met official.

The minimum temperature was three notches above normal at 11 degree Celsius. This was a steep climb from Tuesday’s four degrees. The maximum humidity was 94 per cent and the minimum 74 per cent. “The visibility at Safdarjung at 5.30 am was till 1,000 metres,” said the official.

With cold conditions prevailing in the north, 61 Delhi-bound trains were running late. These included Sealdah Rajdhani, Kerala Express, Goa Express, Gomti Express, Tamil Nadu Express, Karnataka Express, Goa Express, Shalimar Express, Bhopal Express, Andaman Express, Ranikhet Express, Mangaldweep Express, Tamil Nadu Express, Samta Express and AP Express.

According to a bulletin released by the Northern Railways, 25 trains from the city were rescheduled. These include trains bound to Kolkata, Puri, Hyderabad, Bhagalpur, Allahabad, Kanpur, Guwahati, Bangalore and Chennai.

Three trains to leave for Lucknow, Bareilly and Raxaul were cancelled.

Similar foggy conditions are likely to continue. However, there is likely to be no rainfall on Thursday, said the Met department.

“The sky will be partially cloudy. There will be moderate to dense fog. The maximum temperature will hover around 17 degree Celsius and the minimum around eight degrees,” added the official from Met
department.
