Last Updated 22 August 2016, 08:32 IST

In a freak accident, a 30-year-old DTC bus driver lost his life when the bus, which was in a stationary position, caught speed and rammed into an office at a depot in south Delhi.

The accident happened at 11 am when the bus was being repaired by a mechanic inside the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) depot at Dwarka Sector 2 when it suddenly accelerated and rammed into the wall of the administration block.

The driver of the bus Bhot Singh was standing outside. When he saw the bus moving, he tried to control it but instead got crushed under it.

Another bus which was standing before the first bus was pushed towards the office complex in a similar manner.

Ajay was taken to Maharaja Agrasen Hospital nearby by the DTC staff but was declared brought dead by the doctors. The mechanic did not suffer any injuries.

According to police officials, the bus was standing on a downhill but they still haven’t been able to understand how the bus started moving on its own.

“We are investigating the incident and questioning the mechanics and other staff of the depot,” a police official said.

Foul play

The family members have alleged foul play in the accident but prima facie the police team hasn’t found any such evidences.

“Most probably it is accidental. But we are investigating every angle and not ruling out anything at this moment.

The team is recreating the scene to understand what actually happened,” the police official said.
