Man jumps off 7th floor at AIIMS, survives after pipe breaks his fall

Cops had got him admitted there for pelting stones

A 24-year-old man on Thursday jumped from the seventh floor of All India Institute of Medical Sciences’ but fortunately got stuck on an overhung projection on the fifth floor of the building.

Ashutosh Kumar, jumped off the seventh floor of the emergency building, but his leg got stuck with a sanitation pipe running parallel to the building.

Police said they received a call from outside AIIMS informing that a man was pelting stones on passersby entering into the hospital premises.

“A police official reached there and found that he was in tattered clothes and was continuously picking up stones and pelting at people,” said a police officer.

“The police official took control of him and admitted him to the hospital. He was identified as Ashutosh Kumar and seems to be mentally disturbed,” the officer added.

After an hour, police received another call informing that a man has jumped from the seventh floor of the building and was stuck on the fifth floor.

“We reached the spot and found that the same person was stuck at the overhung projection on the fifth floor of the building. He was rescued and was again admitted to the emergency unit. He had received factures on his left leg and left hand. We asked the police official deputed over there to keep an eye on him,” said the officer.

Meanwhile, police are looking for Ashutosh’s background and how he came to Delhi.
“We have also asked doctors to check his mental condition as he seems disturbed,” said the officer.

The man reportedly hails from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
