<p class="bodytext">Senior writer Rajeshwari Narayan said dedicated study and practice were both required for a person to write excellent poems.</p>.<p class="bodytext">She was addressing the participants of 'Maneyangaladalli Kavigoshthi', a poets' meet, organised by the Chintamani Taluk Kannada Sahitya Balaga at Umashankar Nivasa on Tuesday.</p>.<p class="CrossHead">'Soulless poetry'</p>.<p class="bodytext">"It is good to find many people writing poems in the present times. Yet, most of the poems are also bereft of force, vigour and substance. They can be called soulless, being only a flimsy collection of big words," she expressed concern.</p>.<p class="bodytext">"Poets should take care to use only simple words to let their thoughts flow. A poem that reaches to the common man is always highly impressive," she advised.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Industrialist Nagesh S Kanchi, who spoke on the occasion, said, "I did my schooling in English medium but developed immense pride about Kannada. I have written several literature-based works in Kannada. There is certainly a need to develop a sense of pride about the language."</p>.<p class="CrossHead">'Expand reach'</p>.<p class="bodytext">Senior writer Champalli Chandrashekharaiah said, "Poets' meets like 'Maneyangaladalli Kavigoshthi' are organised for poets and other writers as well as the common man, as members of a household are drawn to participate in such meets. The reach of such meets should only expand, creating an awareness about Kannada language and the need for its development."</p>.<p class="bodytext">B V Ramachandra Reddy, the honorary president of the Chintamani Taluk Kannada Sahitya Balaga, and Shi Ma Manjunath, the secretary, spoke on the occasion.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Poets V Chalapathi, Zeenat Unnisa, Mylapura Lokesh, Jain Manjunath, N Munikrishnappa, N Seethamma, Bhojaraja, M Suresh, Venkataramanappa, Ravichandra, Chandrashekharaiah, Rajeshwari Narayan and K S Noorullah read their poems to the gathering.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Folk artistes Seekal Narasimhappa, Swarappalli Chandrashekhar, Sayil Shashiraj, Chi Mu Harish, Swarnagowri and Gurumallesh sang Kannada songs.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Retired ASI Krishnappa and his wife Vijayamma, who were sponsors of the programme were honoured.</p>
