Residents hope for good future with pinch of salt

Ankur Aggarwal, a businessman from Vikaspuri, says he does not know much about the Municipal Corporation of Delhi polls scheduled on April 15.

“I was not keen on voting for these polls either. It does not make sense to vote for people who are least bothered about development in my area,” says Aggarwal.

Priyanka Tyagi, a resident of Shahadra and BTech student, had applied for her voter ID card. “But I have not got it yet,” she says.

“It has been five months since I applied for the card. I have not been able to cast my vote for almost two years,” she adds. “Without the ID card, I cannot do anything to change the system though I want to vote.” Harish Kumar, a private sector employee and resident of Kamla Nagar, says he will cast his vote on April 15. “Water bill has been hiked in my area, and it is a major issue now. Ten years ago the water bill used to be Rs 30 per month.

Not it comes to Rs 3,000 every two month,” he adds. Vipin Palliwal, a businessman from Laxmi Nagar, says every year promises are made but not fulfilled.

Mohan Advani from Patparganj says roads are in pathetic condition. “If you are walking on any road in our area, I can easily snatch your wallet and neither the police nor residents will come to help you. Should I hope for a better future? I am not sure,” he adds.

Pallavi Mehra, a homemaker from Badarpur, says she has never voted in MCD polls. She has also decided not to vote in future as well. “I have seen closely how councillors work in our area. They do not deserve to be elected.”
