World Day Against Child Labour focus on children in conflicts and disasters

The International Labour Organisation (ILO) sanctioned day against child labour mark on June 12, this year focuses on protecting children in conflicts and disasters. The theme of World Day Against Child Labour 2017 is 'In conflict and disaster protect children from child labour'.

The World Day Against Child Labour is a sanctioned holiday initiated in 2002 by the International Labor Organization to raise awareness about child labour and to encourage people to not send children to work. According to the ILO, millions of children are employed in labour across the world.

In the statement, ILO noted that among 1.5 billion people live in conflict, violence and fragility and 200 million people are affected by disasters every year, a third of them are children.

"A significant proportion of the 168 million children engaged in child labour live in areas affected by conflict and disaster. The World Day Against Child Labour this year will focus on the impact of conflicts and disasters on child labour," said in the statement.

Along with this theme, the UNICEF India put education for each child, as the commencement of academic year in India is June. The official account of UNICEF's India branch shared a tweet today to commemorate the 15th World Day Against Child Labour. The agency also asked people a question: " #foreverychild, education. Do you agree?"
