Ban on heavy vehicles on Charmadi Ghat Road

Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil has banned the movement of heavy vehicles, including trucks, containers, ship cargo, long chasis heavy vehicles, heavy commercial vehicles on Charmadi Ghat Road.

Only cars, jeep, two-wheelers, Rajahamsa buses and other passenger buses, barring premiere buses, can ply on the road.

With the closure of Shiradi Ghat and Sampaje Ghat for vehicles, Charmadi Ghat is the only available road to reach Bengaluru and other hinterland areas from Dakshina Kannada.

As the pressure is high on Charmadi Ghat, the movement of heavy vehicles may cause traffic congestion on the stretch. In fact, a truck had broken down on the 10th curve of Charmadi Ghat on Friday evening, resulting in a traffic jam on the stretch.

The continuous rain in the region is also causing landslides on a few locations which are immediately cleared by the officials, the DC said.
