Bottle dropper at Raja Seat

The bottle dropper facility at Raja Seat in Madikeri.

Unchecked dumping of plastic bottles by tourists and street vendors in the surroundings of Raja Seat has been affecting the beauty of the spot.

To check the dumping of plastic bottles, the Kodagu Green City Forum has come out with a plastic bottle dropper facility at Raja Seat.

This facility is the first of its kind in the district. It will be inaugurated on Monday.

The bottle dropper was set up at a cost of Rs 10,000 by the Green City Forum.

Forum President Kukkera Jaya Chinnappa said, “We have taken a pledge to free Madikeri town from the dumping of plastic bottles. With the help of the CMC, the Tourism Department and the Archaeology Department, efforts will be made to set up such plastic dropper facilities in different parts of Madikeri town.”

The dropper has enough space to drop a plastic bottle. Instead of dumping used plastic bottles, the public should use dustbins. The CMC is entrusted with the responsibility to clear the plastic bottles from the dropper, he added.

Forum Director Monthi Ganesh said, “The dumping of plastic bottles and waste at Gaddige, Fort, Omkareshwara temple and Abbey falls in Kodagu have been affecting the beauty of nature. The disposal of plastic is a challenging task to the local bodies. There are plans to set up such dropper facilities at various tourists spots in the future.”

The bottle dropper facility will be inaugurated by cricketer Robin Uthappa, who is also the ambassador for Kodagu Green City Forum.

MLA K G Bopaiah, MLC Sunil Subramani, ZP President B A Harish, CMC President Kaveramma Somanna and DC P I Sreevidya will take part in the inauguration.

A jatha to create awareness on cleanliness and sanitation will be organised from General Thimayya Circle in Madikeri on November 19. Over 600 students are expected to take part in the jatha.
