JOIN USPeople in Neriya village in Belthangady, which is situated on the foothills of the Western Ghats, are hit by the rain fury as protective walls and houses have collapsed, in addition to flooding of the rivers.
Huge trees have been brought down by the floods in Aniyuru stream in Neriya. The bridge at Aniyuru-Puduvettu has been damaged due to the force of water. The protective walls of a pump house and water tanks nearby have also been affected. The trees stuck under the bridge are yet to be cleared.
Neriya Gram Panchayat President Muhammed said that several houses and roads have been damaged. One house in Banjaru, six in Gandibagilu, three in Padegundi and three in Parandadi have been damaged.
Gandibagilu, Parappu, Kukkejalu, Kerimar, Gandhinagar, Parandadi and Balayapade roads have been damaged to a great extent. Water is seeping on to the roads, obstructing the movement of vehicles, he added.
There have been landslides in many places, resulting in the loss of crops. The departments concerned should reach out to the people, he said.
The soil above the Mangaluru-Bengaluru gas pipeline in Neriya village has been eroded by the flood waters. The protective walls of the pipeline have collapsed in several places, creating fear among people.
Former MLA Vasanth Bangera visited the rain-affected places in Neriya, Bayalu and Kukkejalu areas.
