Tight security has been deployed in areas like MG Road, Brigade Road, Indiranagar, UB City and the IT corridors.

The police have made elaborate security arrangements across the city to handle crowd during the New Year celebrations. This follows an alert by the intelligence bureau over Wednesday’s arrest by National Investigation Agency in Delhi and other parts of the country.

The police personnel will watch local miscreants during the New Year’s Eve. Ten teams have been formed to monitor rave parties on the city’s outskirts.

T Suneel Kumar, the police commissioner, said adequate security arrangements are put in place to ensure the safety of people, especially women and children, during the New Year celebrations.

Tight security has been deployed around malls and shopping complexes and areas such as MG Road, Brigade Road, Indiranagar, Koramangala, UB City, IT Corridors, he said.

As many as 12,000 police personnel along with 80 platoons of the reserve police force and 250 women police squads will be deployed on the eve of New Year, he said.

Four drone cameras, four LCD display system and 15 watch towers in and around MG Road will be put up. Existing 400 cheetah bikes and newly added 911 bikes will patrol the city street along with 272 Hoysala vehicles, the officer said.

Anyone affected during the celebrations can call the police control room, and the complaint would be attended immediately, the officer said.

The management of pubs, bar and restaurants are directed to ensure the safety of women visitors. A special women police squads will be deployed at strategic locations, the officer said.

Liquor can be sold till 2 am, and action would be initiated against the violators. The Pub and bar owners are instructed not to sell alcohol to minors, Kumar said.

The police will also keep a vigil on divers of private taxi services when they pick up and drop women passengers during the night. The drivers have also been sensitised on do’s and don’ts while playing on December 31.

Get permission to erect a pandal
You may have to take BBMP’s permission to erect a pandal for the New Year celebrations.

Mayor Gangambike Mallikarjun has sent a proposal to this effect to the BBMP commissioner. “It has to be made mandatory to obtain permission if someone wants to erect a pandal for the New Year celebrations,” the proposal said.

The commissioner is yet to decide on this.
