The Kalasipalya police arrested three people for stealing nearly 45 kg of silver items over the past six months from the shop where they were working.

Adesh, Andani and Kiran — residents of Kavika Layout — were arrested and silver items worth Rs 18 lakh were recovered, said DCP (west) Ravi D Channannavar.

The accused were working at Anjanadri Jewellers on Avenue Road. All were trusted employees and the owner, Satish, used to send them to the godown, half a kilometre from the shop, to get silver items. Each time they went to the godown, the accused used to steal one item and hide it near the bushes. After duty hours, they took it home, said a senior police officer.

The theft came to light when Satish observed differences in sales and stocks during a six-month audit. He later filed a complaint with Kalasipalya police.

The three had stolen 45 kg silver items and stored them at their house. They were planning to sell them in villages during the festival season starting this month. They had also contacted their friends in various districts to help them in selling the items, the officer said.
