A 35-year-old business analyst stabbed the 45-year-old mother of an auto driver, besides injuring her husband and the driver himself.

The incident happened in Bairathi in Kothanur limits of north Bengaluru on Saturday night when the auto driver, Bharath, tried clearing the air with Anand Kumar over a misunderstanding about his friendship with Kumar’s wife.

The police said Kumar, working with a private firm in Whitefield and living for a decade in Bairathi with his wife Sneha and 10-year-old daughter, frequently clashed with his wife over her friendship with Bharath, who resided close by.

A senior police official said Kumar came home drunk on Saturday evening and quarrelled with his wife over Bharath.

Sneha called Bharath, who came over to convince Kumar that there was nothing suspicious going on between him and Sneha.

But on seeing Bharath, Kumar raised his voice. The commotion brought Bharath’s parents to the spot. In the heated argument that ensued, Kumar picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed Bharath’s mother Savithramma, his father Sannappa and Bharath, too.

Savithramma, who Kumar stabbed on the chest, died on the spot, while Sannappa and Bharath sustained multiple stab wounds.

Sneha’s loud cries alerted the neighbours, who rushed the three victims to hospital, where Savithramma was declared brought dead. Sannappa and Bharath were admitted for treatment.

‘Auto was for commute’

The Kothanur police arrested Kumar, who tried to escape.

He told the police that Bharath’s affair with his wife prompted him to attack the family, but preliminary investigations revealed that Sneha was only hiring Bharath’s auto for commute.

The police, who booked Kumar for murder and attempt to murder, produced him before the magistrate.

He was remanded to judicial custody. The police are yet to record the Sannappa’s and Bharath’s statements as they were still in hospital.
