The High Court, on Wednesday, directed the State government to collect beggars’ cess on property tax and pay to Central Relief Committee (CRC) for the welfare of inmates of the Beggars’ Colony.
Hearing a PIL petition filed by Rashtrothana Sankalpa, the Division Bench comprising Chief Justice D H Waghela and Justice B V Nagarathna directed that the cess collected should be deposited with CRC.
The Bench directed it to submit an affidavit about measures taken to address health issues among beggars.
