Bodybuilder hacked to death: Police

A 30-year-old bodybuilder was hacked to death by three armed men in Shivajinagar in the early hours of Tuesday, according to authorities.

The victim is identified as Syed Irfan, a resident of Chandni Chowk Road in Shivajinagar. He was a gym trainer and owned an aquarium shop.

A senior police officer said that Irfan was near Old Cemetery Road around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Three people wearing helmets then arrived on two bikes and attacked Irfan with lethal weapons. The victim ran a few metres but he was chased and slashed. The three suspects then fled from the scene.

In spite of his injuries, Irfan managed to call his wife and inform her about the attack. Irfan's family rushed to the scene and took him to Bowring hospital. Doctors, however, declared him dead on arrival.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that Irfan was a small-time financier who had quarrelled with a few people over a woman. The Shivajinagar police have registered a case.
