Bowring Institute issued a show-cause notice to Avinash Amarlal Kukreja on Tuesday asking him to explain why he should not be expelled from the membership of the 150-year-old elite club following the recovery of stashed wealth in its lockers.

“We have sent the notice to Avinash through registered post to his residence asking him to present himself before the disciplinary committee on July 31 between 6.30 and 7 pm,” said H S Srikanth, secretary Bowring Institute.

The notice sought an explanation from him for unauthorisedly using the lockers in someone else’s name, and also on how he managed to get three lockers when members are granted only one locker, Srikanth stated.

Moreover, the notice also seeks his response for violating the badminton court norms where he stashed cash worth crores, gold biscuits, watches and land documents in the lockers where only sports attire or other articles like watches, sunglasses, etc., should be stored. He is also asked to explain how they got three lockers in the badminton club though neither he nor his family members have enrolled for the sport.

The notice also mentions that all of Avinash’s above-mentioned actions have brought disrepute to the prestigious institution and hence asks why he should not be expelled.

Club reaches out to mom

Meanwhile, Srikanth has reached out to Avinash’s mother Kiran Amarlal who suddenly stopped coming to the club after the news about his son broke out. The club asked her to continue with her visits to the club with her friends. “Kiran, also a good friend of mine, is a regular at the club. I have spoken to one of her cousins in order to reach out to her to encourage her to visit the club,” said Srikanth. “Though we understand that her not coming to the club is because she thinks she might be the subject of discussion, we will ensure that nobody talks to her about the issue. Besides his mother, a senior citizen does not have anything to do with Avinash’s irresponsible actions,” Srikanth said.
