A female cashier at a credit co-operative society ganged up with her brother-in-law and two of his associates to eliminate her boss who had detected her involvement in a financial wrongdoing at the financial firm.

Police arrested Rekha (27), her brother-in-law Putta Basappa (26), both from Jigani hobli, Anekal taluk, Saktivel (27), of Garvebhavipalya, and Manikanta (29), of Begur, for murdering 36-year-old Murugesh B whose decomposed body was found in a eucalyptus grove on the outskirts of Samandur, near Attibele, bordering Tamil Nadu’s Hosur, on April 15. Murugesh was the secretary of Primary Agricultural Credit Cooperative Society, Kachanayakanahalli, where Rekha worked as a cashier.

Murugesh had recently stumbled upon misappropriation of funds through fraudulent transactions of deposits taken from members of the co-op. An internal inquiry later led him to conclude that Rekha was involved, too. He confronted her and asked her to return the money.

But Rekha didn’t pay up and instead plotted to get rid of Murugesh. This way, she could have a shot at the secretary’s post, too. She roped in Basappa. On April 13, Rekha made an advance payment of Rs 10,000 to Basappa, Saktivel and Manikanta and promised another Rs 25,000 once the “job” was done.

The three men rode on Rekha’s scooter to reach Murugesh’s house and waited for him to step out. The moment he came out and walked for a distance, the men overpowered him and dragged him into a nearby eucalyptus grove where they strangled him with a belt. They then stabbed him in the face multiple times to make sure he was dead. The gang later fled.

A few villagers spotted the body on Sunday and called the police. Police carried out the murder investigation on the basis of a complaint filed by Murugesh’s wife.
