A police inspector fired at a habitual offender when he attacked a constable in a bid to escape while being served an arrest warrant in KG Halli, East Bengaluru. Tabrez Bilawar, of Vinoba Nagar, with 14 criminal cases and 11 warrants, had been on the run and police were having a tough time tracing him.

KG Halli police inspector Edwin Pradeep and head constable Shivakumar went to an isolated place in KG Halli on Sunday night after receiving a tip-off. Seeing the policemen, Tabrez attacked Shivakumar and tried to escape.

Pradeep fired a warning shot in the air, asking him to surrender himself. When Tabrez didn’t pay heed, the inspector fired at him and immobilised him. Both Tabrez and Shivakumar were later rushed to a hospital. Their injuries are not life-threatening. The KG Halli police have registered a fresh case against Tabrez.
