People over the age of 60 make up 8.6% of the country’s population and the figure would go up to 20% by 2050, a study has revealed.

Experts who spoke at the seminar “Trends and Challengers in elder care”, organised here on Wednesday by Covai Care, listed out the challenges the country would encounter as they spoke on elderly care.

Speaking on the occasion, Covai Care Managing Director Col Achal Sridharan VSM stressed on the need to build a care model that includes seniors. With longevity, he said people spent a third of their life after retirement and while designing solutions to them, one must keep in mind the need to integrate care.

Representatives from many NGOs involved in providing care and dealing with the health care needs of the elderly spoke about the
insights and the challenges they faced.

A shot film on loneliness in elders was presented by Vineet Verma, CEO Brigade Hospitality Services at the event.
