Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad has asked the citizens not to throw food waste on streets.

The appeal comes a day after the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) took up a suo moto case against BBMP officials over the rise in stray dogs attacks in the city.

“The BBMP is bounded by the Supreme Court orders. We have been carrying out the animal birth control programme, and the dogs are also observed post-surgery,” said Prasad.

"Like some states in the country, we are not allowed to catch stray dogs. But we are trying to take all the possible measures. We appeal to the residents not to throw food on the streets as this attracts dogs, and they may become aggressive and attack people,” said Prasad.

The commissioner also said to have instructed the sanitation workers to clear the food waste on the streets.
