<p>Union Minister for Human Resource Development Smriti Irani on Monday informed Lok Sabha that proposed Indian Institute of Technology at Dharwad will start functioning from the current academic year.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Replying to a question from Shobha Karandlaje (BJP), the minister said that the IIT would start operating from a temporary campus at Walmi at Dharwad till it gets permanent campus. <br /><br />In the initial years, IIT Bombay would guide IIT Dharwad, the minister said in her written reply. <br /><br />The Karnataka government had identified 507 acres land at Kelageri and Mummigatti in Dharwad and steps would be taken for building a permanent campus for the IIT, the minister added.</p>
