Karnataka to allow movie-goers to carry their own food

Last Updated 26 October 2018, 12:15 IST

The Karnataka state government would allow cinema-goers to carry their own food inside movie theatres, said Food and Civil Supplies Minister B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan on Tuesday.

Asked about the overpricing of food items inside multiplexes, Khan said Karnataka would follow in Maharashtra's footsteps.

“The Maharashtra government has allowed film-goers to carry their own food into multiplexes. Karnataka will follow suit. I will hold discussions with officials and soon take a decision in this regard. A decision will also be taken on fixing uniform rates on food items," the minister said.

Recently the Bombay High Court had asked the Maharashtra government why it could not regulate the prices of food items being sold at "exorbitant" rates in multiplexes. Since then the Maharashtra government has said that it would regulate prices and allow cinema-goers to carry their own food inside.
