Murder near railway station: 4 arrested

The Upparpet police named Sathish (23) of Coimbatore, Anthony (21) alias Guru from Chitradurga, Kumarswamy (20) alias Pradeep of Hassan and Suma (25), a sex worker from Channapatna as part of a gang was quite active at the railway station, the Majestic bus stand and its surrounding areas for a couple of months.

N K Navtinder Singh of the 21st Punjab Regiment lost his life  in an act of great bravery when he rushed in to save RPF constable Ramachandra who was attacked by two members of the gang. Singh died after he was stabbed in his chest by Satish, one of the suspects. Ramachandra is under treatment for multiple stab wounds.

The 31-year old Singh had arrived in Bangalore on Sunday for training at the Army Supply Corps. He reached City by the Karnataka Express and was waiting for a vehicle to pick him up from the railway station.

While the army man was awaiting his ride, at 3 pm, Ramachandra caught Sathish and Guru for allegedly robbing a passenger of her valuables. In an attempt to escape, Sathish pounced on Ramachandra and stabbed him in his abdomen. With action taking place in front of his eyes, Navtinder grabbed the duo in an attempt to save Ramachandra but was stabbed by Sathish.

Despite sustaining injuries, Navtinder, managed to snatch the knife and stab Sathish in his back. The murderers managed to flee.

The Upparpet police was able to garner some vital clue about the presence on the spot of Suma, a sex worker, during the incident, and traced her to her Chandrapura residence in Anekal. The police also arrested Guru, another gang member, from her house.  Acting on information provided by Suma and Guru, police raided a house in Tulsithota area and arrested Sathish and Pradeep.
