Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Commissioner G Kumar Naik  on Tuesday conceded in the Palike Council that there was some glitch in the property tax collection software and it would be rectified in the next few days.

“We want to strengthen our tax base. There is some glitch in the programme and we are in the process of rectifying it. The National Informatic Centre is at work,” said the commissioner. He said the target was to collect at least Rs 1,000 crore tax online.

Naik told the Council that a substantial amount of pending bills would be cleared using the property tax revenue. He also highlighted the need to work extensively on advertisement revenue. The commissioner said there was a need to recruit more people to serve the citizens better.

Winding up the discussion on the budget of the civic agency, Naik said there were 1,250 municipal employees per lakh in Delhi and 885 per lakh in Mumbai, but in Bengaluru, the ratio was just 380 per lakh.

“We need to fill the additional sanctioned posts for the smooth functioning of the Palike,” he said.

He said the Palike had decided to asphalt 244 roads at a cost Rs 417 crore. He also informed the Council about the various IT-related initiatives taken by the Palike to improve the administration.
