Parameshwara catches staff off guard in surprise visit

Deputy Chief Minister (DCM) of Karnataka G Parameshwara conducted a surprise inspection of various works undertaken by the BBMP in North Bengaluru, besides checking on the functioning of Indira Canteen kitchen and a Public Library in Devasandra near Hebbal.

Accompanied by Mayor Gangambike Mallikarjun, Commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad, Parameshwara visited several places and interacted with the public about the services and inconvenience caused to the public due to development works.

Walking into the Indira Canteen at Devasandra, Parameshwara caught the staff by surprise when he extended Rs 2,000 for the breakfast token worth Rs 10. The staffers struggled to arrange for the change. Tasting the Bisibelebath along with officials, Parameshwara appreciated the quality and visited the nearby kitchen.

The DCM's sudden entry into the kitchen caught the helpers off guard. He praised the staff for maintaining cleanliness inside the kitchen.

Later at a public library, Parameshwara inquired about the number of visitors and examined the attendance register. He also visited the BBMP run maternity hospital in Ganganagar limits.

Speaking to media persons later, Parameshwara said: "There were complaints about the quality of food provided at Indira Canteens. Hence decided to conduct a surprise check. I have also tasted the food. Contractors have adhered to the quality and standards. They have also maintained proper hygiene."

Parameshwara also said that henceforth he would conduct surprise visits. "If you inform and go, officials will cover up lapses. Hence I will plan more surprise visits in the coming days to understand the reality. If there are any lapses, I will take appropriate action immediately," he pointed out.

Making a brief stopover at the Outer Ring Road (ORR), Parameshwara inspected the ongoing whitetopping works. He instructed officials to complete the works at the earliest. During the inspection, he interacted with the public and asked them about the inconvenience caused due to the ongoing works.
