<p>A 29-year-old man with a criminal record was hacked to death by a group of unidentified assailants at Managanahalli Cross near Ullala, western Bengaluru, on Sunday night. </p>.<p class="bodytext">Gurumurthy alias Murthy was found lying in a pool of blood in the early hours of Monday. </p>.<p class="bodytext">A preliminary police investigation shows Gurumurthy came near a bus stop a while before the murder and consumed alcohol. A group of people picked a quarrel with him and attacked him with lethal weapons before fleeing in an auto-rickshaw. The murder remained unnoticed for two hours until some passersby saw the body and took him to the Victoria Hospital but it was too late. </p>.<p class="bodytext">The jurisdictional Byadarahalli police suspect old rivalry behind the murder of Gurumurthy who lived in Chikkagollarahatti. He dropped out of a diploma college and took to crime.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The police said that he was involved in several murders and robberies. He was arrested by the Kamakshipalya police on a dacoity charge and had come out on bail a few days ago.</p>.<p class="bodytext">In total, he had 13 criminal cases at Annapurneshwari Nagar, Kamakshipalya and Rajagopalnagar police stations.</p>
