'State committed to upgrading road between B'luru, Mysuru'

The State government is committed to its proposal to upgrade the existing Bengaluru-Mysuru stretch to a six-lane national highway and will go ahead with the project.
Public Works Minister H C Mahadevappa said this on Thursday while interacting with the media in Bengaluru.

Mahadevappa said Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises (NICE), which is executing the Bengaluru-Mysuru Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project, had filed its objection to the upgradation process with the Centre. “However, we are committed to the project and will go ahead with the work,” Mahadevappa said.

On complaints regarding poor quality of repair work at Shiradi Ghat, Mahadevappa said it was too premature to make such allegations as work was still in progress. Relying to a query, the minister said the process of removing unscientific road humps on State highways was under progress. Only humps near schools and hospitals would be retained, he said.
He said the State government was planning to develop and improve 10,000 km of State highways in the next three years. Road development programme would be taken up under the Karnataka State Highway Improvement Project and also by the Karnataka Road Development Corporation. Around 3,000 km of roads would be improved per year, the minister said. Widening of roads would also be taken up wherever required, he said.
Mahadevappa said the PWD will take up construction of 150 bridges with the financial support of the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (Hudco). An announcement to this effect is likely to be made in the State budget next month. Priority will also be accorded for converting roads connecting one district headquarters with the neighbouring district headquarters into four-lane stretches and roads connecting district headquarters with taluk headquarters into two-lane stretches.
