Farmers' Science Congress inaugurated

On the occasion of golden jubilee celebration of the Institution of Agricultural Technologists (IAT), the Institute on Friday organised Farmers’ Science Congress.

Agriculture minister Shivashankar Reddy inaugurated the event.

“Agriculture minister has asked us to prepare the report on the event with the brief description on the inventions done by the farmers, which will be reviewed at the government level, K Krishnappa, secretary IAT told DH.

“The minister has also promised to support the unique and innovative ideas and promote the technique from department so that it will benefit other farmers. This is the first such an initiative, where IAT will be doing more such events in coming days,” the secretary added.

“The expert committee will review the farmers’ inventions. Besides submitting the report to the government the IAT will also approach various NGOs which are supporting the farming sectors in the state,” Krishnappa added.

Twenty-two farmers across the state shared their experience with other progressive farmers, scientists and other agricultural experts. Farmers inventions on sustainable crop production, crop improvement, diversity of rare breed management, natural resource management, plant protection, animal husbandry, agriculture mechanism, food processing and marketing were presented.
