PIL against white topping: HC issues notice to BBMP

Last Updated 12 April 2019, 05:54 IST

The Karnataka High Court has issued a notice to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) while hearing public interest litigation challenging the white-topping of South End Road from Madhavan Park to Nettakallappa Circle via Nagasandra circle.

A division bench comprising of Acting Chief Justice L Narayana Swamy and Justice Dinesh Kumar was hearing a petition filed by AC Chandrashekar and seven other residents of Basavanagudi who have sought for directions to the concerned authorities to not undertake white topping work on the said stretch

The petitioners have contended that the BBMP has not finalised any scientific method for the white-topping so far.

The petitioners have further contended that the said road will lack drainage facilities for rainwater and sewage water due to lack of culverts. Furthermore, if the white topping work is undertaken in an unscientific manner, the same will result in further uneven roads.

The petitioners have further added that the said stretch of road does not require white topping.
