Two men were charred to death after a car in which they were travelling hit a private bus and caught fire on Hosur Road near Chandapura during the early hours on Sunday.

The victims, Zabiulla (24), a worker at a real estate firm, and Ismail (28), a resident of Hosur, were on their way to Hosur when the accident occurred at Hennagara Gate around 4.50 am, the police said.

The car jumped the road divider, entered the other end of the road and hit the front portion of the bus. As both vehicles were speeding, they caught fire seconds after the collision. The driver absconded from the spot after the accident.

A few passengers on the bus sustained minor injuries. All 19 passengers were safely evacuated. Attempts to rescue Zabiulla and Ismail failed as the doors of the car were locked, the police said.

On receiving the alert, the fire personnel rushed two fire tenders, and extinguished the flames and recovered the bodies.

The Surya Nagar police have registered a case and are hunting for the bus driver.
