Underpass flooded, residents fear outbreak of dengue

Last Updated 07 October 2018, 20:17 IST

The underpass in Muthyalamma Nagar near JP Park ward has been filled with rainwater for the past four months. The stagnating water has started stinking, with residents complaining that it has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

“The underpass has become a pond with stagnant water for the last three to four months and has started stinking now. Nobody can enter the underpass because of it. Urgent help is needed to repair it to avoid health issues like dengue,” said Vimal Lakhotia, a resident of Muthyalamma Nagar.

We have complained to the authorities but till now the Bruhan Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) has not taken any action. This stretch is used by the commuters to reach JP Park and Bandappa Garden,” said Praveen Kumar, a resident.

JP Park corporator Mamatha KB Vasudev said the underpass was built to replace a railway level crossing around nine months ago.

“The project was completed at a cost of Rs 45 crore. We have written many letters to all the senior BBMP officers about the issue, but no one bothered. I will make sure that the issue is resolved soon,” she said.
