Woman falls into water sump, dies

A 29-year-old woman was killed after she accidentally fell into a water sump near her house in Jnanabharathi on Monday.

The victim, Vasuki, was a resident of Mallathahalli and hailed from Tamil Nadu, the police said.

The police said she got married five years ago. But she had parted ways with her husband and was staying at her parents’ house along with four other siblings. She was a daily wage labourer, the police said.

As she was addicted to alcohol due to domestic issues and the police suspected that she could have been under the influence of alcohol when the incident occurred.

On Sunday, around 9.30 pm, While Vasuki was returning home, she accidentally stepped on the sump which was partially covered by a wooden log and fell inside.

As she did not return home, parents started searching and spotted her at the sump that was a few blocks away from her house. On being alerted the police retrieved the body and shifted it to a hospital for post-mortem.

The Jnanabharathi police have registered a case and are investigating further.
