A 30-year-old woman was raped by a duty manager at a hotel in the central business district on Sunday night.

The victim, a native of Indore, had checked in to the hotel on Richmond Road around 9.30 pm on Sunday. She was offered a room on the second floor.

Duty manager Manish Kumar Singh (26) was just finishing up with his duty hours when he had a friendly chat with the woman in the lift. He then gave her his phone number and took her number on the pretext of helping her with any needs. Singh, who had joined the hotel a couple of months ago, was provided accommodation at the same hotel. Around 10.30 pm, he went to the woman’s room on the pretext of talking to her. He forced himself on her and sexually assaulted her. Soon after the incident, Singh left the room.

The woman rushed to the Ashoknagar police station and lodged a complaint. The police registered an FIR and arrested Manish within hours of the complaint. He was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody. The victim has identified her perpetrator and further investigations are under way.

This was the woman’s first visit to Bengaluru and was in the city on an official visit.
