Guv to open VTU regional centre

The campus is spread over an area of 8.5 acres and is being constructed over a cost of Rs 24 crore. Governor H R Bhardwaj is expected to inaugurate the building.

Minister for Higher Education, Dr V S Acharya, Minister of Medical Education, S A Ramdas, Minster for Forests, C H Vijayashankar, Mayor Sandesh Swamy, Zilla Panchayat president, S N Siddhartha, KSOU Vice Chancellor Prof K S Rangappa will participate in the programme.

Prof Kori said that the construction of post graduate block, girls and boys hostel, guest house, staff quarters, e-learning and EDUSAT, international level training centre and hostels at VTU Regional Centre is under progress.

Modernisation

Prof S A Kori said that a Research and Development (R&D) Fund of Rs 5 crore to promote R&D activities among affiliated engineering colleges. He said that towards modernisation of examination system and speeding of exam results, the university has created the most modern Data Centre with automation and improved security features. He said that the university is the first in the state to have a pilot project in digital evaluation.

He said that VTU research portal has been designed to provide information such as list of guides, research area, research students attached to them and the research centre. The portal also provides material on research methodologies and report writing.

The portal gives information on research funding from VTU and the list of thesis published by VTU.

Prof Kori said that VTU has embarked upon bring 3D rich animation and e-contents on mobile devices. The main feature of the technology is that 3D interactive animations are available on a selected range of mobiles using less bytes of information.

Action plan

Explaining the action plan of VTU for the next three years, Prof Kori said the university aims to cultivate entrepreneurship culture among students. He said the university has proposed to establish ‘Entrepreneurship Development Cells’ in all affiliated engineering colleges. 

Job mela will be held to create placement opportunities for rural engineering students.
R&D will be promoted in all affiliated engineering colleges. ‘Centre for Urban Development and Infrastructure Studies’ will be established.

Centres of Excellence will be formed in association with industries.
