Muzrai Minister Krishna Palemar told reporters here on Monday that the department has plans to stop all VIP treatment inside temples.

“We are planning to ban use of special bands to receive VIPs inside the temple. Devotees should not be put to hardship when VIPs visit temples. Keeping this in mind we have decided not to give special treatment to VIPs inside temples. Let them (VIPs) too wait in the queue and offer prayers to the deity like any other devotees,” he said adding that reception should not be organised for VIPs spending temple funds.

‘Maintain sanctity’

The minister categorically stated that the department will not release funds, if temples were renovated like lodges and other modern buildings. “Do not expect funds from the department, if you have plans to renovate temples in non-traditional way,” he added.

He said there is no meaning in converting Nagabanas (sacred snake sanctuary) into concrete and mosaic tile structures. He warned that stringent action will be taken against those who cut trees at Nagabana.

Plaintain leaves will be given preferences to buffet system for lunch in order to boost banana cultivation and help farmers, Palemar said. Dakshina Kannada, which has many temples, lack proper infrastructure. Temples in the district will be developed based on the ‘vastu shastra’ without affecting the sanctity, Palemar said adding that the department will release necessary funds for the development of temples.
