Tulu should be adopted as State language, says MP

 Speaking on the occasion, he assured to seriously consider the attempts for the inclusion of the Tulu language in the 8th schedule of the Constitution and all the measures required for the language to be qualified under the necessary criterion.

Recommendations for the inclusion will be done to the Committee concerned with the matter, he said. He assured Rs 10 lakh from the State government to the Kuppam University, one of the Dravidian universities in Andhra Pradesh, to open a Tulu language department, which will be opened within a couple of months. Tulu language needs a finer approach and additional support, he opined.

Speaking after inaugurating the presentation ceremony, Udupi-Chikmagalur MP DV Sadananda Gowda said that Tulu language needs the status of State language and that it has to be introduced as optional language in the schools of the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi. He advised the Karnataka Tulu Sahithya Academy to send the proposal to the government. The matter will be discussed in the cabinet meet and the decision to adopt Tulu language as the State language will be taken, he said. Bannanje Babu Amin from Udupi received the award in the field of Tulu literature and research, while Sadashiva Salian from Mumbai received the award for drama and cinema. Dasu Bangera from Belle was bestowed with the honourary award in the field of folk art.  Tulu Academy President Dr Palthady Ramakrishna Achar presided.
