Pak court bars A Q Khan from speaking on nuke programmes

Delivering the ruling, Justice Ijaz Chaudhry of the Lahore High Court directed the federal government to adhere in letter and spirit to the security protocol for Khan, under which he is allowed to meet visitors and move freely.

Deputy Attorney General Navid Inayat Malik told the court that the government was complying with the court's order."During the last two months, Khan met 216 people and had medical check-up 56 times," Malik said.

Challenging Khan's claims that he was not being allowed to move freely or to meet people, Malik said there was no truth in these allegations as there were no restrictions on his movement.

Justice Chaudhry directed Khan not to make statements on Pakistan's nuclear programme.
"Dr A Q Khan is not allowed to give statements on nuclear-related issues," the judge remarked as he disposed of the petition.In his petition, Khan claimed the government had "re-imposed restrictions" on his free movement.

"The government has imposed illegal restraints on Dr Khan’s free movement and liberty under the garb of security. The government is relying on an illegal document to impose security on him," claimed Syed Ali Zafar, the counsel for Khan.

"Khan is required to act upon the advice of a government officer with regard to his movements and such terms violate his fundamental rights," Zafar alleged.

After Khan reached a secret agreement with the Pakistan People's Party-led government early last year, authorities ended his detention five years after he was put under house arrest for operating a clandestine proliferation network
