Cong ducks questions over alliance with AIADMK

Last Updated 08 October 2010, 16:48 IST

Just as Sonia Gandhi is scheduled to address what has been built as a “huge rally” in the temple town of Tiruchirappalli, the Pradesh Congress continues to vacillate if it has to go to the Assembly polls in the state with the ruling DMK or its rival the AIADMK.

While senior Congress leaders like Home Minister P Chidambaram favour continuation of ties with the DMK, a vocal section in the party are pressing a review of the relationship, a euphemism for either power-sharing with DMK or to forge a new alliance.

The issue gained sharper focus after Jayalalitha in an interview to a newspaper made an open appeal to the Congress to “seriously ponder” continuation of their political relationship with the DMK.
