Madikeri Dasara begins

After offering traditional pooja at Pampina kere at 5.30 pm, the Karagas of four Shakti Devathes—Kundurumotte Chowti Mariamma, Dandina Mariamma, Kanchi Kamakshi and Kote Mariamma temples went around the town to mark the beginning of nine-days Nadahabba.

The Karagas after offering pooja at Chowdeshwari temple in Mahadevapete, visited Pete Sri Rama mandira.

The Karagas procession will be taken out in different parts of the city from Saturday, to allow the public to offer pooja. The members of ‘Gowli jananga’ carried the Karaga Shakti Devathas on their head. P C Krishna carried the karaga of Kanchikamakshi temple, Ramesh carried karaga of Kundurumotte Chowti Mariamma, Umesh Subramani carried Karaga of Kote Mariamma and G A Umes carried Karaga of Dandina Mariamma temple. The main streets in Madikeri were decked up for the Dasara. The Karagas were accompanied by Nagaswara, Vadyamela. On the day of Vijayadashami, there will be shobhayathre of Dashamantapa.

Earlier in the day, CMC President P D Ponnappa, BJP Working Committee member Sunil Subramani offered special pooja to the Karagas at Pampinakere.

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has already agreed to sanction Rs 40 lakh for the Madikeri Dasara celebration.
