Dr Nagendra Prasad K V, Allergy Physician at the Centre said that there are two kinds of lung diseases, obstructive and restrictive. "Obstructive normally occurs when a person is suffering from asthma and other breathing related problems. Restrictive lung diseases are caused due to extensive smoking where a person develops uneasiness in breathing," he said.
Early detection
Persistent smokers are prone to develop chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD ), where a person develops uneasiness in breathing due to limitation of air flow to and from the lung which eventually causes death.
Dr Prasad said that a smoker must undergo spirometry test to know lung capacity before it is too late. M S Ramaiah Hospital also conducted free Spirometry tests on 200 patients on
Thursday.
