Q I am 24 years old and I suffer from severe hair loss. I used to have thick hair. But this has now been reduced to limp, weak strands. How can I improve the condition of my hair?

A It is perfectly normal to lose 40-50 strands of hair every day. Drink 10-12 glasses of water to keep the internal system healthy and to eliminate toxins. Protein intake is necessary. Eat plenty of vegetables, fruits and dairy products. Vitamins, iron, protein and other nutrients must be present in your diet. Spinach keeps your hair healthy. Increase your intake of zinc. This prevents hair loss and premature greying. Items like wholegrain flour contain zinc. Exercise is also a good way of reducing hair fall. It improves blood circulation and stimulates the follicles, preventing hair fall. Avoid using tight elastic bands, clips or pins.

Q I am 20 years old and I am 5 feet 3 inches tall.  My weight is 76 kilos. Although my body looks slim, my arms and hands appear to be chubby. How can I lose a few kilos?


A You are 20 kilos overweight. You should eat healthier and exercise more. Eating healthier means increasing your intake of fruits, vegetables and fluids. Include whole wheat grains (whole wheat atta, brown rice) and avoid refined food items like white bread, flour, rice and sugar. Avoid food products that are rich in saturated fat (ghee, butter, whole milk, fatty meats) and excess salt (pickles, baked items, canned, tinned and bottled food). Try to walk every day for minimum of 30 minutes. Take the stairs instead of the elevator.  Join a sport (basketball, throwball or swimming). 

If you follow the above guidelines, you will definitely lose some flab and regain confidence to mingle with your friends.
