A committee headed by the Chief Minister has been constituted to select people who have made significant contributions in their respective fields. The award carries Rs 1 lakh in cash and 20 grams of gold.
Kannada and Culture Minister Govind Karjol, on Tuesday, told reporters he had received about 2,900 applications for the award.
The committee, comprising seven ministers and heads of academies, would scrutinise the entries and select the applicants.
