SC issues deadline to BCCI, Modi

Last Updated 21 October 2010, 16:57 IST

Senior advocate Ram Jethmalani appearing for Modi submitted that “I will use my good offices for a reconstituted committee.”

A bench of Justice JM  Panchal and Justice Gyan Sudha Misra said either expand the number of committee members or exclude those who are in the general body meeting from the committee.

The bench made it clear that if not there was no negotiation, the apex court would resume the hearing on the matter from October 27. However, the BCCI on Wednesday told the Supreme Court that it was not possible to reconstitute its panel.

Meanwhile, the BCCI refuted reports that it had reached an “understanding” with the suspended IPL commissioner in the ongoing probe into charges of financial irregularities against him.

Reports in the media, quoting Modi’s counsel Mohd Abdi, stated that probe panel member Arun Jaitley and another of Modi’s lawyer Ram Jethmalani met on Wednesday night to work out an understanding. The BCCI said while the two did meet, no peace formula was on the agenda.
