Work codes scam: EEs under scanner

Last Updated 22 October 2010, 19:28 IST

In a circular issued on October 6, the BBMP Commissioner Siddaiah had asked for a detailed report from each of the 84 EEs on the work codes issued by them during the financial year 2008-09 and 2009-10. Except eight, all the EEs are yet to submit their reports.

BBMP officials state that the reports were being delayed as most EEs are likely to have been involved in the scam. According to the Central Vigilance Commission, which is looking into the scam in the year 2008-09, while there was an allocation of only Rs 1,441 crore for infrastructure projects, work codes for as much as Rs 1,500 crore was given.

For the year 2009-10, while there was an allocation of Rs 2,438 crore for infrastructure projects, work codes amounting to Rs 2,500 crore were issued.

With revelations of misappropriation amounting to Rs 120 crore in the CVC reports over the last two financial years, serious concerns have been raised over the financial irregularities in the BBMP during the Administrator’s period.
