Nitish harps on development

Last Updated 24 October 2010, 18:47 IST

Accompanied by senior BJP MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley, Nitish lost no opportunity in taking a dig at his arch-rival Lalu during the three-hour road show in western Patna.

“Five years back, only one industry was thriving – kidnapping industry. We destroyed it and ensured 50,000 criminals were sent to jail. If we get another term, we will go after the corrupt officials, who loot public money, take bribes and build houses in Patna and Delhi. We will confiscate their houses and open schools,” said Nitish as the crowd cheered in affirmation.

Next stop is Chitkohra. “All of you know what kind of Bihar I got when I took charge in November 2005. The power production was nil. But now, Kanti power plant (400 MW), Barauni unit (500 MW) and Nabinagar project (2000 MW) are all lined up. If I get another chance, the thrust will be on making Bihar self-sufficient in power generation,” said Nitish.

But when someone from the crowd pointed out that Lalu has promised motorcycles to school-going children (who these days get cycles from Bihar Government), Nitish retorted.
Jaitley too harped on infrastructure development and improvement in law and order.
