12 killed in two separate accidents

Dead include four of a family; seven grievously injured

Eight persons were killed on the spot and seven sustained grievous injuries in a collision between a goods auto rickshaw and a KSRTC bus near Kesarolli village in Haliyal taluk on Sunday.

All the victims were heading to their villages after after weekly shandy by the auto.
The deceased have been identified as: Sharada Krishna Mavalangi (53), Ganapati Balundri Walekar (68), Sulochana Prakash Fernandes (30) Clara Bastyav Siddi (30), Vinuta Prakash Fernandes (2), all residents of Garadolli, Netra Shivaji Karanjekar (2)of Kesarolli, Yashoda Gundu Mavalangi of Kyatanagera and Dimanu Sonu Jankar (50) of Rayapattana.

The auto driver fled the spot after the accident.  Of the seven injured, five have been shifted to KIMS, Hubli for treatment. Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president R V Deshpande, legislator Sunil Hegde and others consoled the members of the bereaved families.

Bus rams into bike

Four persons of a family were killed on the spot as a KSRTC bus rammed into a bike near Malebennur in Harihar taluk.  Basavarajappa (40), his sisters Mallamma (40), Tungamma (35) and Tungamma’s daughter Jahnavi (6) were returning from a function in Belludi of Harihar taluk on a bike.

A KSRTC bus coming from the opposition direction hit the two-wheeler killing all the four on the spot, police said. The bus was proceeding from Shimoga to Bijapur.
