Fakes of top brand watches seized

7 held for selling imitations of expensive Rolexes, Breitlings, Tissots, Omegas

The brands include Rado, Rolex, Breitling, Tommy Hilfiger, Tissot, Omega, Cartier, Police and Longines. Ashraf Bin Abdullaha, Abdul Qadar, Mohammed Sajid Pasha, Mohammed Sharief, Mohammed Parvez Pasha, Chand Pasha and Iqbal Rabbiya were arrested on charges of procuring and selling the watches.

According to Alok Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), the suspects have been running such business for last couple of years and the police took action suo motu.

“We have not received any complaints from the officials of the watch companies. The arrested used to sell the watches as fakes -  at Rs 6,000 to 7,000 for brands that would cost around Rs 50,000 for the originals. The price would go up if the customers were gullible,” he said.

“One of the arrested has confessed to getting the watches from Kerala. Most of them are studded with duplicate diamonds and look like original. Investigation is on,” Alok Kumar said.
