Youth turns robber to gift girlfriend a gold chain

Dheeraj Bhamari, son of a small-time businessman, was apprehended along with his friend Rohit (21) after a brief chase near Partap Nagar Metro Station yesterday while they were trying to flee after a robbing a passerby.

The victim, Tahir Hussain, was returning to his house from Bara Hindu Rao Hospital when the duo accosted him. They allegedly assaulted Hussain and took away Rs 800 from his possession.

"Hussain shouted for help and Sub Inspector Sahib Singh and Constable Om Parkash rushed for help. Both Bhamari and Rohit were chased and apprehended," Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) S S Yadav said.

Bhamari told the police that he wanted to gift a gold chain to his girlfriend on her birthday tomorrow. "He was running short of money and to arrange money for the gold chain, he planned to commit robbery with Rohit," Yadav said.

Four mobile phones and a motorcycle have also been recovered from their possession. The motorcycle bore a fake number plate.
