Hundreds of persons including farmers and women participated in the event. While Chikkahole is at its brim, about Suvarnavathi needs three feet more to reach the maximum level.

Water from Suvarnavathi and Chikkahole flows through the canals into the lakes. But the canals are old causing problems in free flow of water.

A memorandum was submitted to the Executive Engineer of Cauvery Neeravari Nigama urging for the removal of silt that has accumulated in canals.

When the lakes are full there are no sub-canals through which the water can flow. Due to this water is going waste.

The crop is also getting damaged. Many parts of the agriculture area are not getting adequate water. Sub-canals need to be constructed about three-four kms from the Lakes exit point so that all farmers get sufficient water, they said.  Doddakere, Chikkakere and Sindigere has around 750 acres of irrigated land. If water is filled in the lakes around 2,000-3,000 acres of land could be irrigated.

Besides, recharge borewells in the surrounding areas. But the bunds near the lakes are in bad shape.  With potholes being created, it is becoming a problem for traffic. Horata Samithi members demanded immediate repair of the bunds.

According to the decision of the Irrigation Consultative Committee water is released to the Hongalawadi Canal for three days which will be stopped for the next 15 days. Again the water will be released. There is no use of releasing water as it does not reach the lakes. Once water is supplied to all canals, it should be continued for at least no days. Horata Samithi President K P Mahadevaswamy, S Jayashankar, Natesh, Shivamallappa, Puttamallappa, R V Mahadevaswamy, Hanumaiah, Puttaswamy, Parameshwar and others were present.
