State sanctions Rs 24 cr for development work

CM to visit Chikmagalur district on Nov 14

Briefing media persons, Deputy Commissioner Dr N S Chennappa Gowda said that funds have been sanctioned for the development works, which include repair of Bababudangiri - Kemmannugundi road.

He said that Rs 13 crore has been released to concrete road between Lingadahalli and Giridhama.

The Bababudangiri road will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 11.5 crore, he said adding that works will be taken up through the Tourism Department.

Tenders to develop Indira Gandhi road has been invited and two contractors have already come forward to take up the works, he said adding that the contract will be awarded after verification within a week.

Talking about the ongoing railway track construction near Hiremagalur, the DC said that the work is going on smoothly. However, some farmers are demanding more
compensation for their land, he added.

“Some people in Sakharayapatna refused to hand over the land to Railways. We held discussions with eight land owners. The matter will be solved through negotiations within a week,” he added.

The DC said that land owners demand high price for their land. “I have asked them to produce documents to prove the value of land. Let them produce documents of the land, which were sold in recent past,” he said.

CM to visit on Nov 14

The DC informed that the Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa will visit Chikmagalur to participate in various programmes on November 14. The CM will participate in a programme and distribute sarees to beneficiaries under the ‘Bhagyalaxmi’ scheme, he added.
