Lokayukta initiates action against BBMP over boy's death

Lokayukta felt that the officers of the concerned departments of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) had not taken precautionary measures to prevent such mishap, which had taken the life of school going child, a statement from the judicial-body said.

The Lokayukta was also of the opinion that there is prima facie mis-conduct on part of the officers of the Labour department and the BBMP, which calls for inquiry against them.
It has taken suo moto notice of this dereliction of duties on the part of the officers as provided under Section 7(1)(b) of Karnataka Lokyukta Act.

The enquiry will be conducted by Vigilance Director (Urban Development) and notices will be issued to the officers concerned to take further action in the matter, it said.On November 1, Subbu, a Class II student, accidentally drowned when he fell into the deep pit (filled with rain water) which was dug to install the lift.
